On rest
We went to the lake this weekend to visit the parents...it was relaxing. I can't remember the last time I went and played in water and then fell asleep by it in the shade. There is something really nice in having the time to take an unintentional nap. Especially when it's in the shade by water so, when you wake up, you can promptly stand up and jump into the water to wake you up.
I rested this weekend and it was invigorating. Life gets busy. It's my own doing, and I can very easily rest more frequently, but it's a difficult battle between two things I love doing. I like hanging out with people and reading and doing things. But I also like naps and rest. Not every weekend needs its nap by the lake, but I'll take 'em when they're available. Especially when my husband drives home.
This week, I've realized I miss college beach retreats. A week at the beach, pretty much doing nothing but resting and hanging out with your friends. No agenda. No schedule (except for dinner). Maybe one of these days my family and friends can do this again. Prioritize the creating of memories through joint rest and fun. Buy huge tubs of sunscreen so my husband doesn't get sunburned. Bring board games to play indoors during the heat of the day.
With us heading up north on vacation in a few weeks and traveling out of the country for a few weeks this fall, summer seems almost over. Ah, to sit and have no schedule or agenda. Next summer, perhaps, we can be like pudding. First, we sit...and then we chill. Anyone game?
In the meantime, boy am I lucky the in-laws only live 2.25 hours away at a pretty gosh darn relaxing place! Here's to taking advantage of it, especially while we live so close by!
